A House with History

 

Casa do Monte is dedicated to Rural Tourism as a country house for comfortable accommodation, and it is located about 4 km from Barcelos, on the road leading to Viana do Castelo, Portugal, Europe. The proximity to the Atlantic Ocean allows you to enjoy beautiful beaches.

This home surprises with an extraordinary panoramic, contemplated with beautiful gardens of flowers and manicured lawns. It has a lot of places where you can find tranquility. It was erected in 1935 as a summer residence and the architectural design of José Vilaça in traditional Portuguese style. Ideal for appreciating the tranquility of country life and the Portuguese roots.

The typical delicacies of Minho in Barcelos assume even more regional and traditional characteristics, branded by the intense flavours that are a tribute to the art of well cooking.

Landscapes

Barcelos is a territory filled with beauty and natural landscapes provided by the curious reunion between the river Cávado and the territory that borders its banks. The scenic hills stand out from the landscape and provide view of the entire valley of Cávado, Neiva and Este leaving the coastline and the Atlantic at its feet.

Festival of the Crosses

The festival of the crosses, in early May, is the first great festival of Minho and is also the portrait of the authentic Barcelos in its most original traditions, be it religious, ethnographic or cultural. May third is devoted to Senhor Bom Jesus da Cruz and is a municipal holiday in Barcelos. The celebration usually lasts for 5 days, including the first and the third of May.



Location


From Porto Airport: Take the A3 to Braga and leave the motorway in the exit to Braga/Barcelos. After paying the toll turn right to Barcelos. On arrival to Barcelos (you don’t enter into the town) continue until you find a right turn to Viana do Castelo. Turn right and in a short while, you will see a road leading to the right sign posted to Abade do Neiva, follow that road, take this turning, and in approximately 1.5km you will find the house located on the left hand side. The name of the house is written on the gates on a tiled nameplate.
